ASSOCIATION OF GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDERED ISSUES IN COUNSELING OF LOUISIANA

AGLBIC-LA (Association of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Issues In Counseling of Louisiana) continues to work on recruiting new membership, maintaining contact with national AGLBIC leaders, collaborate with other organizations both within and outside LCA in outreach and programming on GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered) affirmative  counseling and social justice, increase awareness by sponsoring presentations at the LCA conference and in local settings.  We are committed to promoting unconditional positive regard for all who enter counseling.  Cost for membership in this exciting and determined division is only five dollars a year.

NAME, AFFILIATION, AND MISSION

Section 1. Name. The official name of this organization shall be the Association for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues in Counseling of Louisiana(hereafter referred to as AGLBIC of LA).
Section 2. Use of Name. The official name of the Association as specified in Article l, section 1, shall be employed in connection with all official business and communications pertaining to AGLBIC of LA.
Section 3. Affiliation. AGLBIC of LA is a division of the Louisiana Counseling Association (hereafter referred to as LCA) and shall be subject to those provisions of its bylaws that apply to divisions.
Section 4. Mission. The mission of AGLBIC of LA shall be as follows:

A. To promote a greater understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered issues among members of the counseling professions.

B. To improve standards and delivery of counseling services provided to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons.

C. To identify and work to eliminate conditions which create barriers to the individual development of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons.

D. To develop, implement, and/or foster interest in charitable, scientific, and educational programs designed to further the interests of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons.

E. To secure equality of treatment, advancement, qualifications, and status of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons in counseling and development work.

F. To publish a journal and other scientific, educational, and professional materials with the purpose of raising the standards of all who work in counseling.

G. To facilitate a broader awareness of issues in counseling gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons among the helping professions.

MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Categories of Membership. There will be four categories of membership in AGLBIC of LA: regular, student, associate, and retired/limited means.

Section 2 Qualifications for Membership. Membership in LCA shall be a condition for membership in AGLBIC of LA. the categories of membership shall be determined in accordance with the following.

A. Professional Members. Professional Members are those LCA members who meet the requirements for Professional Membership in LCA. They must hold a master's degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field and have interests and activities consistent with the mission of AGLBIC of LA.

B. Regular Members. Individuals who are interested in counseling and development work but who do not meet the requirements of professional membership in LCA or AGLBIC of LA , but do meet the requirements for Regular Membership in LCA. They must also have interests and activities consistent with the mission of AGLBIC of LA

C Retired Members. Retired members are those persons meeting the requirements of Retired Members of LCA and have interests and activities consistent with the mission of AGLBIC D. Student Members. A student engaged in full or part-time study in an accredited undergraduate or graduate school in a course of study related to counseling may be admitted as a student member upon application and endorsement by his/her faculty advisor. They must meet the requirements of Student Membership in LCA and have interests and activities consistent with the mission of AGLBIC of LA

Section 3. Application for Membership. Any person desiring to become a member of AGLBIC of LA shall make application through LCA
Section 4. Continuity of Membership. Membership in AGLBIC shall be continuous and on an annual basis as long as dues are in force.
Section 5. Rights and Privileges. A professional member in good standing shall be eligible to vote, and to hold office in AGLBIC of LA. All other members shall have such rights and privilege accorded them by the Board of Directors.
Section 6. Terms of Membership. Membership in LCA is confirmed by the Executive Director. AGLBIC of LA membership is established by the Board of AGLBIC of LA and renewed annually.
