LCA Awards

Each year the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA) recognizes persons who have made significant contributions to the counseling profession. Awards are presented at the LCA Annual Conference held each fall. However, nominations are accepted throughout the year. Awards presented are:

*The Research Grant award is given in the amount of $500 for research. The research grant will not be given annually, but will be given in those years when the interest has accrued to $500 above the base of amount of $5,000.

All nominations must be made by current members of LCA. All nominees, with the exception of the Distinguished Legislative Service Award, must be current members of LCA.

LCA ADVOCACY AWARD

Purpose:

To honor and recognize an LCA member who has taken the initiative to advocate for the counseling profession on a local and/or state level.  In so doing, the nominee has increased awareness about the profession making it stronger and better represented in our state.

Criteria for Nomination and Selection:

  1. Nature of the Service: Advocacy is the active support of an idea or cause.  In this case, the advocate promotes the counseling profession with a positive effect for the profession on a local or state level.
  2. Relevance to the Profession:  The advocacy must be performed on behalf of the counseling profession and within the scope and mission of one or more of the LCA divisions.

Selection Procedures:

  1. All nominations will be made on the proper form and must be received by the LCA Awards Committee Chair on or before September 1st of each year.
  2. The LCA Executive Secretary will verify the nominee’s LCA membership.
  3. The Awards Committee will meet during the month of September to review the nominations and make the selection using the criteria for the award.
  4. The LCA Awards Chairperson or other designated member will announce the recipient of this award at the appropriate public occasion or at the annual conference.

Nomination Procedure:

Nominee for this award must be a current member of LCA.  Any Division or LCA member may make the nomination.
