This site lists toll free numbers of nationwide hotlines where someone is available to talk or give a referral to a local agency. Many operate 24 hours a day; seven days a week.

American Association of Health Plans
This link should be of special interest to counselors in private practice. The American Association of Health Plans is the national trade association representing more than 1,000 health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, point-of-service plans, and other similar health plans that care for more than 140 million Americans. AAHP represents its member plans on a broad array of issues including legislative and regulatory matters in Washington, in the states, before the television, radio, and print media, and conducts comprehensive research on a wide range of quality and policy-related issues. International Association of Addiction and Offender Counselors (IAAOC)
This division of the American Counseling Association was originally the Public Offender Counselor Association. Members of IAAOC advocate the development of effective counseling and rehabilitation programs for people with substance abuse problems, other addictions, and adult and/or juvenile public offenders.


Licensed Professional Counselor Board
The Mental Health Counselor Licensing Act was passed in 1987 to provide for the regulation of the practice of mental health counseling in the state of Louisiana and to provide for the regulation of the use of the title "licensed professional counselor". Louisiana Association of Addiction and Offender Counselors
The Louisiana Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors is an organization of counselors in the addictions and/or offender fields, individuals who advocate for the appropriate treatment for such populations, or individuals who work in a related field and/or have an interest in this field (e.g., probation/parole officers, agency counselors and supervisors, correctional counselors, juvenile service workers, treatment specialists, community consultants, students in counseling or a related program, or individuals whose activities in an educational or training capacity contribute significantly to such work).
