INFORMATION ABOUT
LAMCD
NAME: The official name of the organization is the Louisiana
Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development
(hereafter referred to as LAMCD).
AFFILIATION: LAMCD is a
division of Louisiana Counseling Association (hereafter
referred to as LCA). LAMCD is autonomous in the conduct of its
affairs, but is operated at all times in compliance with the
By-laws of LCA.
PURPOSE: The purpose of LAMCD
is:

To promote a greater
understanding of diverse populations among members of the
counseling and development professions.

To improve standards and
delivery of counseling and development services provided to
diverse populations.

To identify and work to
eliminate conditions which create barriers to the individual
development of culturally diverse
populations.

To develop, implement, and/or
foster interest in educational programs designed to further
the interest of culturally diverse
populations.

To publish a newsletter and
other educational and professional development materials to
raise the standards of all who work in the counseling
profession.

To facilitate a broader
awareness of multicultural counseling among the helping
professions.
MEMBERSHIP. The association has two types of
membership--regular and student. Membership in LCA is a
condition for membership in LAMCD. Any person desiring to
become a member of LAMCD must submit an application to the LCA
Executive Director specifying LAMCD as the division of choice
on the application. The Executive Director will notify LAMCD
when the application is received and dues have been paid. The
category of membership is determined in accordance with the
following:
- Regular Members. The minimum requirements for
regular membership is:
(1) Full or part-time employment
in counseling and development work at the time application
for membership is made. (2) Experience in counseling and
development work including
(a) Placement, training and other aspects of
counseling and development work in business, educational
training programs, government agencies, or other
organizations; (b) Test development, occupational and
other research and writing directly related to career
development; (c) Counselor training in career
development; and (d) Administration of programs of the
above types.
(3) Interest in and a desire to
uphold and further the purposes and principles of LAMCD
- Student Members. A student who is engaged in full
or part-time study in an accredited undergraduate or
graduate course of study related to counseling and
development work may be admitted as a student
member.
