Trauma and stressor-related disorders include disorders in which exposure to a traumatic or stressful event is listed explicitly as a diagnostic criteria. These include reactive attachment disorder, disinhibited social engagement disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), acute stress disorder, and adjustment disorders. The new DSM-5 has many changes to post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma and stress-related disorders, as well as reactive attachment disorders. This course has a two-fold goal: to dis the re-organization of the DSM manual and to explore the changes in diagnosis and treatment of the trauma and stressor-related disorders.
The presenter for this online session is Dr. Thomas Fonseca. Dr. Fonseca is an Assistant Professor of Counseling Practicum and Internship Coordinator at the University of Holy Cross New Orleans.
Dr. Fonseca is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Louisiana, a board approved LPC supervisor in Louisiana, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Louisiana, a National Certified School Counselor (NCSC), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). He is the recipient of the 09-10 Humane & Caring Award, 09-10 Distinguished Professional Service Award, 03-04 Presidential Recognition Award for Distinguished Service from the Louisiana Counseling Association. He is also the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award (Adjunct Faculty) at the University of Holy Cross. His research interests include crisis intervention, ethics, and professional identity. He maintains a private practice in the New Orleans area.
