Theories in Mental Health

Theories provide a framework for describing and understanding thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; conceptualizing a problem or situation; and techniques for addressing issues. This seminar considers the relationship between theories and mental health counseling.

9:00AM – 12:00PM DEVELOPMENTAL THEORIES (3 CE clock hours) This course reviews two major theoretical models of development - Sigmund Freud's psychosexual theory and Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory.

1:00PM - 4:00PM BEHAVIORAL & COGNITIVE THEORIES (3 CE clock hours) This course reviews major theoretical models at the center of behavior, thoughts, and emotions - Ivan Pavlov, BF Skinner, and Albert Ellis.
