Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was developed by Marsha Linehim for treating Borderline Personality Disorder, and since its creation, clinicians have been expanding Linehim’s techniques to various disorders and populations. Traditionally, DBT was a team approach, yet DBT can be easily integrated with other theories as long as the clinician is trained and component with the DBT skills. This workshop will provide a high-level introduction to the principles of DBT, and highlight the 5 skill sets of DBT including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and walking the middle path when working specifically with adolescents in counseling.
