Managing Over-and Under-Activation in Processing Memories

This workshop is intended for mental health professionals who have completed at least Part I of EMDR Basic Training.

The presentation demonstrates the use of Jim Knipe’s Constant Installation of Present Orientation and Safety (CIPOS), Back of the Head Scale (BHS) methods to assist clinicians working with clients who are under-accessing or over-accessing affect related to traumatic memory during the desensitization phase of EMDR processing. Anecdotal evidence suggests these techniques make it possible for clients to access the target memory while maintaining awareness and orientation to present safety. This presentation includes lecture and practicum where participants will have an opportunity to demonstrate learned concepts and techniques.
