Suicide Prevention, Assessment, and Intervention

This workshop will help you understand the characteristics of individuals who are at higher risk to attempt suicide, identify warning signs of suicidal individuals and review evidenced based assessment tools for suicide prevention and triage

Appraisal of the individual is met through the review and practice of using evidenced based assessment tools like the Columbia Suicide Severity Scale (C-SSRS) and Suicide Assessment Five-Step Evaluation and Triage (SAFE-T) Counseling theory if met through review of signs and symptoms of suicidal individuals, review on clinical approaches to intervention techniques when working with suicidal individuals including the review of the research that indicates the positive effects of art therapy with this population.

 The learning objectives:  

  • To learn key concepts of suicide prevention
  • To understand the characteristics of individuals who are at higher risk to attempt suicide, warning signs of suicidal individuals
  • To discern facts and myths of suicide
  • To learn about and practice use of an evidenced based assessment tool Columbia Suicide Severity Scale (C-SSRS)
