Workshop #5                 February 15, 2019 Assessment and Interventions for Specific Learning Disorders

George W. Hebert, Ph.D.

This workshop will provide participants both evaluation and intervention strategies for children suspected of having a specific learning disorder/specific learning disability. This training activity will further educate participants to the various theoretical frameworks of identifying and explaining why certain children are not succeeding in school. This presentation will utilize an evidenced based approach for both assessments and interventions in which a child’s response to scientifically supported interventions will be used for both eligibility and treatment recommendations. The overall framework known as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) includes Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) components. It is within this approach that the assessment procedures will align well with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and Louisiana regulations for accommodations and/or special education eligibility.
