Alzheimer’s is not a one-shoe-fits-all disease.  It can express differently in different individuals.  Therefore, the need for continuous educational opportunities for people providing care to the affected is essential.  The goal of the conference is to increase the knowledge and skills of family and professional caregivers and health care professionals on providing best-practice quality care to individuals with Alzheimer’s or other memory-related impairments.  This conference will provide essential information on improving brain health, discuss the dynamics involved with sleep challenges with the affected, the impact of religion and spirituality on the affected and their families, and teaching stress management to caregivers.

Alzheimer’ s Services of the Capital Area will be hosting its 26th Education Conference on Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Baton Rouge Marriott, 5500 Hilton Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.  The theme is Age Wise:  Unraveling the Mind, Body, & Spirit Connection.  Richard S. Isaacson, M.D., educator, author, and neurologist will serve as Keynote Speaker for the Brain Health presentation.  Other speakers include Dr. Matt Calamia who will present Sleep and Alzheimer’s, Matt Estrade who will present on The Benefits of Religion and Spirituality for Families Experiencing Dementia, and Jean Gatz will present Mama Said They’d Be Days Like This (Techniques to Managing Stress for Caregivers).  Continuing education units for RNs, Social Workers, Counselors, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Nursing Facility Administrators, and Activity Therapists will be available.

Pre-registration will begins on January 14, 2019-February 22, 2019 at 4:00 PM.  Please see our website at www.alzbr.org for more information.  To pre-register, follow the link on the website or call Kristi Mellion at 225-334-7494.
