This seminar will concentrate on four major topics: (1) pathophysiology and pharmacology of pain; (2) clinical aspects of cephalalgia (migraines and headaches) including psychosocial and preventive interventions and approaches; (3) clinical aspects of spinal (neck and low back) pain, including chronicity transitioning, non-medication and reduced medication management strategies (such as dietary, coping and reintegrative approaches), rehabilitation of chronic pain sufferers and mental health consequences of living with pain; and (4) approach to acute and chronic pain in the “post-opioid” era, encompassing non-opioid pain management, physical rehabilitation, social reintegration and adaptation, as well as some of the more experimental approaches, including neurotransmitter-affecting medication and various therapeutic modalities (acupuncture, physiatry, exocannabinoids and soft tissue work)
