Motivational Interviewing: Developing Discrepancy When Change Doesn't Come Easy

Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based practice designed to help clients build desire, confidence and commitment to change  when addressing diverse behaviors and symptoms that may be associated with mental health disorders.  Motivational Interviewing is often used to address addictive disorders as this intervention helps people become motivated to change behaviors that are preventing them from making healthier choices.  It can also prepare individuals for further, mote specific types of therapies.  Various counseling strategies that re useful to address lack of commitment by building discrepancy will be shared and demonstrated.
