1/7/2020 - 1/7/2020
9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Location: Picard Center for Child Development (ULL), 200 E. Devalcourt, Lafayette

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice used to build motivation for change and reduce resistance when engaging clients in the treatment process. While MI has commonly been applied in the field of addictions, current research supports the application of MI in health, mental health and adult and juvenile justice settings. This workshop, designed for entry-level and intermediate clinicians, will review the approach (the spirit and principles of MI) as well as provide participants the opportunity to learn about and practice applying the core counseling skills (OARS). Specific strategies for evoking change talk will be demonstrated. Small group role-plays will be employed to practice integrating the skills and strategies introduced in this workshop.
