4/15/2020 - 4/15/2020
1:00 PM - 4:15 PM
Location: Capital Area Human Services, 4615 Government St. Room 200, Baton Rouge

The LA documented and undocumented immigrant population has steadily increased in the last 10 years. In October 2019, Louisiana immigrant detention centers had over 8,000 detainees. This training looks at the immigrant experience looking at some of the basic information about immigrants in the U.S. The NASW Code of Ethics is used as a template for what our social work response should be and can be within our current systems.

This workshop will inform participants about the human stories of current immigrants. Participants will learn basic legal and research information about current immigrants and refugees to the US. Also, participants will be able to apply social work ethical principles and values to current immigrant situations.

The presenter, Joseph Keegan, LCSW, has 39 years of experience in child welfare, mental health, education, therapy, teaching and homeless services. He currently works at St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge and consults about data, outcomes, and child welfare services. He has taught at LSU’s School of Social Work and has served on the LSU Institutional Review Board. He loves teaching, supervision, research and trauma focused services.
