The use of remote communication technologies is considered a specialty area by the Louisiana LPC Board. As such, the program must include ethical considerations, addressing working with different populations that include a broad range of issues and clients that include mental health, chemical dependency, assessing and diagnosing. While Telehealth allows providers to delivery client services that would be otherwise unattainable, it has presented challenges to mental health professionals in innumerable ways including technology, professional judgment, ethics, and privacy risks, to name a few. This has challenged clinicians as well as supervisors.

The workshop will include the following:

1. Describe the history of Telehealth.
2. Discuss ethical issues unique to Telehealth.
3. Explain the benefits of Telehealth.
4. Discuss safety planning for Telehealth.
5. Understand acceptable and unacceptable Telehealth technologies.
6. Gain knowledge of ethical, legal and other risk management situation.
7. Discuss safety planning and emergency management.
8. Gain understanding of conducting psychological assessments and diagnosis utilizing Telehealth.
9. Ethical Telehealth with diverse populations.
10. Understand licensing issues.
11. Examine the pros and cons of social networking.
12. Understand HIPAA compliance.
13. Describe the challenges of providing Telehealth services.

This workshop is approved for 9.0 CE clock hours.  This workshop will  count for the 9 hours of TMH training required by the LPC Board.  This workshop was not reviewed for NBCC credits.

This workshop will come in three segments; the May 15 segment will also count for Ethics.
