Society’s understanding of gender and sexual orientation has changed dramatically in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Recently, a rainbow of gender and sexual identities has blossomed giving each person the potential to express and identify themselves as they see fit. However, equality and basic civil rights in healthcare are far from being guaranteed for those who are gender and sexually diverse. Mental health and addiction treatment services, much like the greater society, continue to separate people into categories placing higher values and protections on those who fit the “traditional” notion of what it means to be human. This presentation will demystify some of the complexities of gender and sexuality, making our world a more accepting and inclusive place. We will focus our work on mental health and addiction, from opioids to crystal methamphetamine.

This free virtual workshop is approved for 1.0 CE clock  hours.  It was not reviewed for NBCC credits.
