Legal Practice for Mental Health Professionals

Participants will be presented with what is legal and ethical in the court system, and what is expected of mental health professionals when testifying.  How to advocate for clients when subpoenaed to court: what is appropriate to say, and what is not. What are the best practices for mental health professionals in the court system.

This workshop will define and describe ethical guidelines to follow while testifying for your client.  What is the proper etiquette/ therapeutic language to use while testifying for a family who is receiving counseling services.  How to stay within the therapeutic scope of practice while still serving the clients well.

Participants will learn how to collaborate with attorneys and judges to best serve the family while still protecting the mental health field and license.

The workshop is approved for 3.0 in ethics  for professional counselors.  It was not reviewed for NBCC credits.
