Opioid Tapering

Long-term opioid therapy has been a mainstay of treatment for chronic, non-cancer pain. Tapering of long-term opioid therapy is a common scenario clinicians often have to face. Therefore, evidence-based methods of tapering opioid therapy need to be discussed to decrease the risk of adverse outcomes. This lecture will discuss patients who may benefit from opioid tapering. It will also discuss the methods and rate for opioid tapering. Finally, we will examine cases of opioid tapering.
