Many clinicians invest lots of time and money into becoming certified in particular therapies, but may take for granted their communication skills. Developed for use in treatment of addictions, Motivational Interviewing is more of a communication style and relationship building approach than a specific therapeutic approach and is more about listening than giving advice and direction. This workshop will cover the underlying principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI), how to apply MI Micro-skills (OARS), how to explore client ambivalence, and how to work through client resistance.

The intent of this workshop is to offer counselors three (3) hours of continuing education on learning and practicing the principles of Motivational Interviewing in MH and substance abuse settings.
