Dr. Breannie Charles, PharmD, BCPS, AAHIVP, CSP will be presenting “Non-Opioid Drug Treatments for Adult Outpatient Pain Management” on August 3, 2021.  This is a free virtual event.  Please visit www.womansfoundation.com/cos to register.

Opioid medications are routinely used for pain management due to their euphoric effects and quick onset analgesia; however, significant increase in use has led to an ongoing opioid crisis and epidemic due to problems with tolerance and addiction. Therefore, it is important to increase knowledge of alternative drug treatment options and how to optimally use these medications for effective pain management for certain pain conditions.

The purpose of this activity is to review non-opioid pharmacological/drug treatments for pain management given the need to reduce opioid  use with the continuing opioid crisis and epidemic. The knowledge gap will be addressed by reviewing different non-opioid drug classes, their mechanisms of actions, dosing, duration of use, side effects, contraindications, costs, and how to appropriately use these medications for different types of pain conditions.

The actual time of this free virtual event has not been decided.  Please check with sponsors for this information.
