Secondary Traumatic Syndrome and “Burnout”, Plague over 50% of healthcare providers and those in helping/service based professions, as well as the patients and clients they serve.  This presentation will provide tools to identify, prevent and assist those suffering from stress related conditions. Providers and Clients/Patients, are often suffering from undiagnosed and untreated STS.  Resulting in lack of providers.  Providers need skills to regulate symptoms of STS and “Burnout” among themselves, colleagues and patient populations they serve.  This presentation will help learners to normalize identification, screening and support for STS to help mitigate and reduce burnout, by increasing systemic awareness and change within healthcare, clinical and other care based settings.

Learning objectives:   

  1. Attendees will be given information about how to mitigate exposure, manage symptoms and obtain support in the event they are traumatized, relapse or are impaired by grief.
  2. Attendees will learn to identify burnout, compassion fatigue and trauma activation symptoms within themselves and colleagues.
  3. Attendees will be taught how to implement these skills for clients and families they work with, as well as colleagues.
  4. Attendees will be asked to identify their own bias, beliefs and ideas around colleagues in crisis.
