The Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers (LASACT) has partnered with Baton Rouge local film acting studio, Love Acting to bring mental health counselors a workshop that applies the techniques of acting to support counselors in their client/counselor relationships. Listening on a New Level utilizes improv theatre, a powerful tool to hone the skills needed to be an effective counseling professional. The top skills learned, practiced, and perfected in improv theatre are perspective, understanding power shifts, problem-solving, and creating solutions from ambiguity. Attendees will learn to assess situations through communicating with their client, quickly de-escalate a situation and evaluate their client’s immediate needs as well as to provide their client with the emotional support and tools to continue through their daily lives as safely and healthily as possible. The workshop is open to LASACT Members, LPCs, Non-Members, and university students being held in person in March 25th at Eyewander Photo Baton Rouge, LA from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.
