Have you ever wanted to be more involved in professional counseling organizations by taking on leadership roles, but you were unsure if you had the qualifications or experience for the different roles? Maybe you didn’t know who to ask or where to begin. Maybe you have joined one of the counseling professional organizations or counseling division, but felt lost and unsure of what your responsibilities were? This presentation will explore the obstacles faced by individuals that hold them back from involvement and what concerns PLPCS and LPCS have in taking leadership roles. Some examples include a feeling of being unseen, gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion and even lack of experience. One ingredient that may be missing is mentorship by existing leaders.
