Due to current topics related to homosexuality and counseling, a spotlight has focused on how counselors’ personal values affect their work. The ACA Code of Ethics, Section A.4.b. stated that counselors are aware of their believes and are trained in areas in which they are “at risk of imposing their values onto clients.” (ACA, 2014, p.5) This workshop will explore a variety of personal values—such as religion, abortion, end-of-life, and sexuality, and how these values may affect the counseling relationship. Further concepts will be addressed including self-disclosure, value conflicts, value impositions, and bracketing, as well as case vignettes will be utilized as a tool to promote conversation among participants as to how personal biases may be triggered
