Social media is the main form of communication in which adolescents interact with their peers. Clinicians working with adolescents need to build competencies related to adolescent communication strategies and be knowledgeable regarding how apps such as SnapChat, Instagram, and Twitter work. This workshop will review common social media sites, as well as discuss current research regarding the impact social media is having on the mental health of adolescents related to issues of anxiety, depression, cyberbullying, and sexting.
