Incorporating Artmaking into your Therapeutic Practice

7/31/2018 - 7/31/2018
8:15 AM - 4:15 PM
Location: RKM Primary Care, 11990 Jackson Street, Clinton, LA

This course will give mental health professionals more information about art therapy and how they may add art-making into their practice in an effective and ethical manner. The field of art therapy offers a creative and clinical approach to helping clients address mental health needs. Art therapy can be especially useful in schools as children naturally turn to art-making to express themselves and/or if they have limited access to complex language needed for processing in therapy. Art therapy can be useful in helping children work on such goals as emotion regulation, coping skills, self-esteem, and self-control. However, there are many important ethical and clinical considerations when using art as an intervention that will be discussed in this course.
