Effective Group Work and Addictive Disorders

Location: Behavioral Wellneww Center, 4045 North Blvd., Baton Rouge
This conference will demonstrate through didactic and experiential learning how to effectively work with those who have substance use disorders in a group setting. Clinicians will be instructed and led by current licensed clinicians who are leaders in the local substance use and recovery community.
    1. Identify common misconceptions about addictive disorders, group work, and recovery.
2. Obtain a general understanding of effective assessment, treatment planning, and referral techniques within a group or individual psychotherapy setting. 
3. Understand current themes and trends within the addiction treatment community
4. obtain an understanding of varying psychotherapy interventions that can be effective in working with addicted populations
5. Understand common defense structures and defense reduction strategies in addiction group work
6. Understand addiction from a family systems perspective and how this influences both progression and resistance in group process as well as within the person's overall recovery
