Location: 3300 W. Esplanade Ave. 603, Metairie

Through lecture, discussion, and videotaped sessions, participants will be introduced to the core parts of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-oriented therapy for safely exploring trauma-related symptoms.

The content of this presentation will be focused on evidenced-based theory (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy) and strategies to help professionals working with clients affected by trauma.

1) Learn the core aspects of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-oriented talk therapy for safely exploring trauma-related symptoms. 2) Learn about the non-verbal, procedural aspects of traumatic memory, which have no words. 3) Understand and discuss this “bottom up” (body-based) vs. “top down” (cognitive) approach to trauma therapy through video-taped sessions, client examples, and discussion. 4) Learn skills/interventions to help clients re-associate with their bodies, regulate hyper/hypo arousal responses, and safely explore their in-the-moment experience of trauma.

The presenter will be Christina James, LCSW

The workshop has been approved for 3.0 CE clock hours for counselors.  Even though LCA is an NBCC ACEP, this workshop was not reviewed for NBCC credits through LCA.
