The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, a program of the Board of Regents, is offering a workshop for secondary professional school counselors on Friday, April 5, 2019, from 8:00 am to 12:00pm at the Galvez State Office Building, 602 North 5th Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.

The Collegiate Athletics Compliance Informational Session will provide information to school counselors and college access professionals regarding compliance requirements including, but not limited to, purposes and functions, student-athlete eligibility information, and student-athlete registration information for the major athletic associations (NCAA, NJCAA, and NAIA). The session will also provide financial aid/scholarships the associations provide and recommendations for school counselors and college access professionals to effectively advise their student-athletes to prepare for their transition to postsecondary education as student-athletes.

The information session will supplement the information provided in the session with panelists (currently practicing high school and collegiate athletic personnel) who will provide their experiences with student athletes and provide recommendations on how school counselors and college access personnel can proactively help their student athletes achieve success at the postsecondary level.   This can range from achieving a school/athletics/life balance to time management to "soft skills" that are necessary for the students to be successful in collegiate athletics.
