Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice used to build motivation for change and reduce resistance when engaging clients in the treatment process. While MI has commonly been applied in the field of addictions, current research supports the application of MI in health, mental health and adult and juvenile justice settings. This workshop, designed for entry-level and intermediate clinicians, will describe the approach (the spirit and principles of MI) as well as provide participants the opportunity to practice applying the core counseling skills (OARS).
