Better Options Seminar

11/23/2019 - 11/23/2019
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: UL Lafayette LITE Center 537 Cajundome Blvd, Lafayette

Better Options Seminar will provide background and basic information regarding Parental Alienation and children’s responses to high conflict divorce. Parental Alienation is being increasingly recognized as a barrier to wellness of children involved in a divorce where one parent actively and maliciously alienates the other parent without due cause. The phenomenon has gained credibility among the helping professions but treatment is widely misunderstood and without knowledge of the dynamics of the alienating situation counseling as is presently practiced may be contraindicated. Counselors’ knowledge of Parental Alienation and related issues often seen in high conflict separations is integral to the treatment of those involved. Two speakers will divide the day to introduce and expand on terminology, treatment variables, and future directions of counselor’s role in assisting those involved.

The Better Options Seminar is a series of presentations and workshops designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of counseling professionals. The first seminar hosted by the UL Lafayette Counselor Education Department will he held at the LITE Center in Lafayette, La on Saturday, November 23, 2019. This day-long event will provide attendees with two expert speakers. Eric Green, PhD will speak on “Helping Children Re-find their Footing After Highly Conflictual Divorce,” and William Bernet, MD will speak on “Parental Alienation: How Did We Get Here? Where Are We Headed?” as well as “Parental Alienation: The Importance of Consistent Definitions & Terminology.” Registration can be found at https://counselor.louisiana.edu/about-us/betteroptions-seminars
