LAMFT 2020 Conference

2/28/2020 - 3/1/2020
6:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Location: Renaissance Hotel, 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd., Baton Rouge

The LAMFT conference theme is "Creativity in Self-Care and Wellness:  Surviving and Thriving in a Stress Filled World." Using a foundation of neuroscience, we will examine the areas of art, music, massage, trauma, writing, yoga, and spirituality and their roles in helping us and our clients survive and thrive in our fast paced worlds. You will have opportunities to explore how these mediums actually work, through demonstrations from the presenters, as well as how to use these modalities with clients.

The Keynote presentation is "A Way Forward:  The Transformative Power of Musical Interventions in Healing and Wellness."  In their presentation, Mary McBride and Charles deGravelles will share some of their experiences of the power of music to bring hope and inspiration to displaced populations and will lead a songwriting workshop similar to the ones that they have brought around the world.  David Spruill also will share some of the science behind the transformative power of music in our lives and in the lives of others.

LAMFT will also have workshops on ethics, supervision, suicide assessment and prevention, leadership development, and clinical practice.  A special highlight is "Traveling through the Decades: The History and Development of LAMFT," presented by the first President of LAMFT, John Shalett, and the first MFTAC Chair, Anna Cole, along with several others. They have promised a lively presentation that will take us from our beginning to our current status as a geographic interest network.

This workshop will award 13.75 CE clock hours including 3.0 in Ethics and 4.5 in Diagnosis.
