Sandtray Therapy with Play Therapy

Using sandtray in play therapy offers both the clinician and client an opportunity to explore past, present, and future worlds while being a witness to healing.

This workshop will examine the Sandtray technique as it relates to play therapy. It will focus on the history, supplies, concepts, protocols and themes of Sandtray Therapy in play therapy. In addition, the workshop will explore a variety of ways to implement sandtray therapy techniques through different modalities. Lastly, using experiential activities and case scenarios, participants will be to practice Sandtray techniques.

 Participants will

Identify historical markers of sandtray

Examine the difference between Sandplay and Sandtray

Explore how the brain is impacted by sandtray work
Identify beginning skills for facilitating sandtray play therapy in clinical practice (i.e. sand, miniatures, tray, etc.)
Discuss developing a sand tray play therapy area
Identify the fundamental principles of processing techniques of Sandtray therapy
Demonstrate basic theoretical tenets of sand tray as related to play therapy
Apply learning in experiential sand tray activities
