Abstract:
The racial makeup of college campuses steadily changing while the use of alcohol and other drugs continues to remain steady among college students. With a dynamic shift focused on social justice, racial diversity, inclusion and equity, race-related stress, and bias, ATOD practitioners must shift their Eurocentric methods of prevention, treatment, and recovery as related to BIPOC students. These methods oftentimes do not work effectively with this population. This presentation will discuss how to conduct substance misuse prevention work with BIPOC student populations. discuss the importance of being culturally responsive and improve student health outcomes.
