Many clinicians are presented with a client suffering from a traumatic experience that is often unresolved. Although it may not be the primary goal of the client in treatment, it often is the main issue being presented. The goal of this presentation is to create awareness and interventions for the treatment of clients suffering from symptoms related to traumatic experiences. This presentation will review the clinical criteria for the various trauma and stressor-related disorders. It will review barriers often faced with effective and appropriate treatment of trauma as well as interventions to these barriers. The presentation will overview various treatment interventions that can be utilized in the counseling experience to improve clinical outcomes and effective treatment. It will provide an overview of the biopsychosocial effects of trauma.
