Pain, Opioids, and Addiction: Understanding How They Are Related and How We Can Treat Pain Better to Improve Outcomes

11/4/2021 - 11/4/2021
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Location: Live Webinar; Sponsored by Woman's Foundation, Free;, Live Webinar

Literature has shown that prescribers receive little education on the treatment of pain resulting in less effective pain treatment with worse outcomes.  Attendees will learn the evidence-based analysis of the relative effectiveness of medications and their side effects with recommendations on how to improve treatment of acute and chronic pain.  The reason for this gap is that providers in all disciplines of medicine (nurses, medical providers, behavioral therapists, physical therapists, etc.) receive almost no education on the current understanding of pain and pain management.  The desired change in strategy, performance, and patient care is that participants will have a more comprehensive understanding of pain leading to more effective treatments that reduce pain and prevent the development of chronic pain.  This information will be helpful for all disciplines.  The changes that the learners will intend to make to their strategies, performance, and patient care is that learners will understand how emotions and thoughts affect both acute and chronic pain and will use this information to reduce both acute and chronic pain.
