This online workshop presented by Maya Galathe, LPC, will focus on ethical approaches to working with African American clients. Counselors can often overlook important facets of what makes a client who they are, namely race and culture. In the African American client, this often leads to feeling unseen or invisible (Butler & Shillingford-Butler, 2014). Numerous articles in the counseling field discuss how practitioners feel inadequately prepared to work with African American clients; this presentation will provide counselors of all backgrounds with ethically-informed skills to better engage with African American populations and leave with real-life theories and practices to incorporate into their own work. The event Zoom link will be distributed 48 hours before the event begins.
