The presentation will cover the importance of a shift in how clinicians speak about people with substance use disorder. This will include evidenced-based studies about how the language we, as professionals, use impacts the outcome of client care. Additionally, a history of addiction treatment and the previous ineffective confrontational models of addiction treatment will be discussed.
