Through lecture, discussion, and videotaped sessions, participants will be introduced to the core parts of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-oriented therapy for safely exploring trauma-related symptoms.
Learning Objectives:
1) Learn the core aspects of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-oriented talk therapy for safely exploring trauma-related symptoms. 2) Learn about the procedural/implicit aspects of traumatic memory, which has no words. 3) Understand and discuss this “bottom up” (body-based) vs. “top down” (cognitive) approach to trauma therapy through video-taped sessions, client examples, and discussion. 4) Learn skills/interventions to help clients re-associate with their bodies, regulate hyper/hypo arousal responses, and safely explore their in-the-moment experience of trauma. |
