The 2022 South Louisiana Community Health Summit theme will be “Elevating the Conversation.” The focus will be on understanding the dimensions of health literacy and its role in a positive patient experience. The Summit will move beyond basic health literacy and discuss aspects such as financial literacy, technology and digital literacy, and thoughtful decision-making. Licensed professional counselors will gain knowledge, skills, and tools to improve their practice and its effectiveness.

This summit will focus on health literacy components and how they relate to patient engagement. This will include information on social and cultural competence and how health literacy levels impact individuals and community (social and cultural foundations) and how the patient/provider relationship can be improved or harmed by acknowledging, understanding, and seeking to improve health literacy levels especially in relation to mental health (the helping relationships). The Summit will also provide knowledge, skills, and tools to improve clinical effectiveness and foster better patient engagement (professional orientation, counselor professional identity, and practice issues).
