Understanding adverse childhood experiences and trauma that is often experienced by children can allow practitioners to treat signs and symptoms of abuse and trauma that typically go beyond injuries and physical signs of abuse. Understanding brain development, common diagnoses, and psychological impacts of trauma can increase practitioners' empathy and ability to engage with child survivors of trauma and abuse.
