Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) combines physiological and cognitive strategies to help individuals regulate their emotions without being destructive to self or relationships. Research has shown DBT to be effective in treating a variety of disorders and symptoms, including borderline personality disorder, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, depression, non-suicidal self-injury, problematic substance use, emotion dysregulation, and interpersonal difficulties. DBT provides a common language and teachable skills that can improve our clients’ functioning and help them define their “life worth living.” This training will provide an introduction to DBT and strategies for incorporating it into your practice. It will also review diagnoses that are responsive to DBT and ethical considerations related to these populations.
