This presentation will inform participants about various types of resistance encountered in the helping relationship, and certain approaches to overcome them, in order to engage clients more fully in their treatment. Participants will be introduced to appreciative inquiry (to heighten positive potential), information about the nature and forms of several types of resistance (conscious, stubborn, and unconscious), possible underlying causes, the concept of strategic questioning, and other tips for handling resistance (including through productive confrontation).
