Many clinicians are presented with a client suffering from a traumatic experience that is often unresolved. Although it may not be the primary goal of the client in treatment, it often is the main symptom being presented. This session will review the clinical criteria for the various trauma and stressor-related disorders. It will review barriers often faced with effective and appropriate treatment of trauma as well as interventions to these barriers. The session will overview various treatment interventions, such as Internal Family Systems, that can be utilized in the counseling experience. It will provide an overview of the biopsychosocial effects of trauma. The goal of this session is to create awareness and interventions, including IFS, for the treatment of clients suffering from symptoms related to traumatic experiences.
